Really, Where Does The Time Go?

Last week we had to take Senior pictures, I still can't believe that I'm about to be a College graduate.

All in all we waited for about three & half hours can you tell how tired I looked? My friend kept trying take pictures & what not but I wasn't having any of that I was tired and ret to go. I can't believe we're taking senior pics it feels like we were just in freshman orientation, how the time flies.

So I'm out shopping with some friends, getting ready for spring break and what not. We head to Old Navy and we're lookg around and then we pass by this fine man and I mean FINE! He was an employee there, and he was standing there folding clothes knowing how good he looked. He was tall, had a curly fro, dude was Latin, and he had a job. Everything I like in man! I instantly fell in love. But (in Atlanta there is always a but) then he walks by and goes "gurllll aint those cayutteee!?" then he sashayed away into a dust cloud. I looked at my friend, threw up my hands and just gave up on Atlanta men forever. (well maybe not forever but you know what I mean.) Then we walked outside and saw another cute guy, but (there it is again) his friend walked up and then he smacked his lips and starting talking about what a girl across the street had on. Ughhhhh..... Atlanta, why must you continually do this to me?

It was an amazing oppurtunity to spread the love of Christ around campus hrough service. Today I got the best Valentine's Day gift ever, my tuition was paid. Praise Him. God really showed me How much he loved me today, to Him be the glory. May 20th here I come.

Here's what else I did today:
Wore my favorite shirt, got it overseas, it says One Love in Arabic. Had classes all day. One of my professors brought us Ferrero Rocher chocolates, which I had never tasted. Had dinner with friends. Had a movie night where we watched The Body Guard. *tear* Filled out an application. In between all of this I listened to the In The Heights soundtrack, probably because I am in love with Lin-Manueal Miranda. (look him up) Now I'm about to watch the Valentine's Day episode of New Girl, sip some tea, and go to bed.

Yesterday I was out with a frind shopping it up, preparing for a banquet. Later on that night we stopped by her place, she ran upstairs real quick and then when she got back in the car she dropped the news "Whitney Houston died." I kept saying "What?!" over and over again, I just couldn't believe it, I still can't. Whitney Houston like many of our music icons has always been apart of my life, through all her ups and downs she has always been there. Through it all we loved her and we love her still. That voice of hers will live on after her and far after us, it will be with us always. Thank you God for her amazing gift and for her God given voice, may she rest forever in peace.

Taking a beginner's tap class has really taught me something about myself. I always seem to doubt myself and my abilities, and to me doubting yourself is the same as doubting God. I always struggle with things and ask for help but when the teacher comes over to help he always says "you got you just have to trust in yourself." When I'm too in my head or worried about getting a move down perfectly it always reflects itself in my feet and I end up stumbling. But when I practice the move and trust in myself my feet just flows and the move comes out right. So from now on in tap class and in life I'm going to trust more in my self and the abilities that God has so graciously given me. I'm not gonna worry about doing something perfectly right away, and I'm not gonna be in my head so much. I'm gonna have the patience to learn and to execute with total trust in myself, and when I do that I know I'll be successful every time.

So Thursday was the B-Day I turned the big Deuce Deuce. At first I hadn't planned anything because it was a Thursday and I had classes and homework to do, but I have great friends and they made it special. They brought me gifts at lunch and later we went out to my favorite Atlanta sushi spot. The night was filled with laughter and love and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

My favorite month of the year. First, because it's my birthday month which is crazy because come tomorrow I'll be 22. Secondly, February is black history month. Thirdly, because it's valentines day. Plus february is just a romantic month, the favorite month of hopless romatics everywhere.

January went by so fast and was so good to me, I can't wait to see all that February has to offer. I do have one goal and that's to REALLY try to get my sleeping pattern straight. Other than that I have the same goals I had for the New Year, to read more, to drink more water, and to maintain my fitness routune.

This week has been pretty frustrating. I was ripping and running trying to get my schedule right and these post grad apps are beginning to pile up. But there was some sunshine in my day, and in came in the shape of Pineapple. Yesterday I finally received my prize package from one of my favorites show, Psych. If you know me, you know that I am obsessed with all things Psych. So to see that package in the mail made my freaking week.

If you don't know anything about Psych (shame on you) you may not understand the whole pineapple thing. Well in each episode of Psych there is a hidden pineapple, and there is a challenge each week to see if you can spot it. In the package I received Psych pajamas, a plush pineapple, and Psych snuggle, and the season 5 DVD, and it all came in this cute little Psych satchel!

I'm so happy to be able to call Martin Luther King, Jr. my Morehouse Brother. I am a part of his legacy and I'm am reminded of that every time I gaze upon his statute that stands so tall in front of King's Chapel on Morehouse's campus. We all stand on the shoulders of giants like MLK, we are all here doing what we do because they had the courage to do what they did. Because of them we can aim higher and dream bigger. I pray everyday that God can use me in the same way, to pave the way for the dreamers and freedom fights of tomorrow. To let me love like MLK did, to fight back with love even in the face of adversity and extreme hatred. He was a true example of what it means to love and live like Christ. Let's all make him proud and live so that his actions were not in vain.

I have a love/hate relationship w/ airports

Welp Christmas break is over. Tommorrow begins the first full week of classes but I still smell like a vacation lol. I need to get into grind mode, I'm sure it will kick in when the asignments and readings start rolling in. Once I get my schedule all hooked up hopefully I will be taking tap, photography, and a poetry workshop. Definitely exploring my artistic side this semester, so stay tuned for all magnifcant pieces and photos I'm sure I'll be reluctant to share on here. I will share I always do, no matter how reluctant I am. You guys won't judge me or my work right? Hahaha.

Anyways I'm just greatful to back for my last semester, I've been through alot and I've seen a lot of my friends leave school for different reasons. Through it all God has kept me and come May, 20th 2012 I will be a graduate of the illustrious Spelman College. Tell me God aint good. Can I get a an amen, and amen again. Glorrryy!!!

I wish I would have taken a full picture but for New Years I was defiantly channeling Kathleen Cleaver. Black sweater dress, combat boots, and the fro to match. For New Years I went to church and praised in the new year. Gave this year to God and all of my worries about the future. I'd been so worried about graduation and transitioning to the real world but I turned that all over to God. I'll plan for it and do what I can but He is control and I'm gonna trust him. 2012 is gonna be a GREAT year, I can feel it in my bones.

Non-Resolutions:

There are a few things that I want to accomplish this year. Simple ones.

1. Read more. (try to read at least 1 non-required book a month)
2. Drink more water.
3. Continue to work out and eat healthy. (I've lost a lot of weight and I just need to keep it off)

Nothing too crazy or off the wall. Three things I think I can stick too.

I can't believe it's almost 2012. To me the new year is one more step closer to graduation. Freshman year 2012 seemed so far off but now I can clearly see the finish line, 5/20 here I come. This year has been full of greatness and some downfalls, but all of the good far outweighs the bad so I won't complain. I can't wait to see all that 2012 has to offer. Family, friends, food, and laughter. This Christmas was everything. I had way more fun that I thought I would. It was a pretty low-key day at first but later on that night we had a Christmas shindig at one of my cousins house. It was cool because I had the chance to see people I hadn't seen in years. Going away to school has really distanced me from some people, and it was cool to catch up. Here are a few pics from that joyous day.

From those piercing green eyes to his sultry voice, from his tattoos to the fact that he is often adorned in a beanie, (I adore guys in oversized beanies) Alexander DeLeon id definitely swoon worthy. I'm also in love with his poetry which he often posts on his tumblr blog SymphonySoldier.com. DeLeon is the founder and lead singer of one of my favorite bands, The Cab. If his looks weren't enough he is the sweetest guy ever. I remember seeing The Cab perform in Atlanta and he was just standing outside before the show talking to fans and asking them about their day. He also rights the majority of the bands lyrics and if his looks don't draw you in his lyricism definitely will. A Georgia group plans to give Barbie dolls to kids in Columbus' Booker T. Washington Apartments this Christmas. But the real gift they hope to deliver is self-acceptance.

Candace McBride, a member of the African-American natural-hair group coordinating the giveaway, told the Ledger-Enguirer that it's hard to find dolls with brown eyes, let alone hair that will remind black girls of their own. So she found an online tutorial that uses pipe cleaners and boiling water to give Barbies natural-looking curls. The plan is to collect and make over about 40 dolls before handing them out.

"We wanted to show the girls that basically, it's OK the way God made you," said member Jennifer Henderson.

Giving plastic toys a trip to the hair salon sounds like a huge undertaking. But maybe that's the kind of thing it takes to combat the pervasive and problematic messages about beauty with which black women are inundated, beginning in childhood. And it's as good as any other idea we've heard to combat this generations-old issue.

If the giveaway goes according to the group's vision, 40 lucky girls will get both toys to play with over Christmas and a powerful message that will stick with them long after they outgrow playing with dolls.

So I have this theory that people who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder are closer to God than anyone else. God is perfect and when you’re close to him you begin to crave ~~perfection~~ holiness and purity. You desire a world where there’s a place for everything and everything has it’s place. But because the world is not like that it drives you crazy, as I’m sure it does for God. People with OCD are heavenly minded and can’t comprehend earthly clutter and calamity of earthly living.

I've wanted a record player for a long time now. Recently my mom found my Dad's old records and now I REALLLYYYY want one. Since I don't have one all I can do is stare at the records and collect more. Hopefully I'll have enough saved up soon to get a really nice one or maybe Santa will make my day and place one under the Christmast tree. One can only hope. :)

I was really happy to see all the Gil Scott-Heron records my dad had, I love his music and his poetry. RIP Gil Scott-Heron. I also love the Kenny Rogers album because it shows me that my dad had a soft spot for country just like me lol.

Fly Like Paper Cranes

I'm obsessed with all things birds, so I decided to learn how to make paper cranes. Turns out it's pretty easy. I plan on getting some origami paper so I can make tons more to hang all over my room. (how hipster of me right?) I also wanna bring back some Christmas lights from home to hang up over my bed. (again so very hipster) Anyways I think they look pretty cool. Sorry the pics are so dark.

I'm finally done! My 20 page thesis proposal is complete and today God blessed me tremendously with a 0 balance on my account. Praise Him! Now all I've to do is turn this paper in in the morning pack and go home. I can enjoy the holiday without worrying about paying tuition, God is too good yall. Glory to his name. Seven semesters down and one more to go. Graduation here I come!

My Life Right Now

My hair is growing so much :)

I wish I had a better camera to take pics with, my other one broke. :(

I just tried OPI nail polish for the first time,yea I know,(you can kinda see it in the first pic) and I'm in love with it. It's lasted for so long. I see now why people love it so much.
The semester is over which means I'm one step closer to graduating. :)

Real life is quickly approaching though, and I'm having mixed feelings about it.

I should be finishing my thesis proposal but instead I think I'll start season 5 of The Wire.
I'm currently listening to Camp on Spotify and falling more in love with Donald Glover.
I can't wait to go home to Dallas this weekend :)

Hopefully I'll have a job when I get there. (Please Jesus!)

Basketball fans rejoice! Games supposedly will resume on Christmas with a triple header, Celtics vs. Knicks, Heat vs. Mavs, and the Lakers vs. the Bulls. While the lockout has left a sour taste in my mouth, as I'm sure it has for most fans, I'm still excited that the league is back!!!!

Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving ends I sit herewatching The Wire and thinking about the memories I made today. I didn't get togo home but I enjoyed great food and great times with my friend and her family.I was sad at first because I wanted to be home eating my mom's greens, but theday turned out pretty good. This Thanksgiving I have a lot to be thankful for soI thought I'd make a short list. I try to do this in my journal every once in awhile, it helps me stay focused and grateful for all the many blessings in mylife. I encourage you all to do the same, it's very beneficial.

here are few things i'm thankful for:

· Great family

· Great friends

· Being a senior at the prestigious Spelman College (God isgood)

· Having a strong relationship with Christ

· My health

· Laughter and laugh lines

· My weight loss and my new fit and active lifestyle

· Peace of mind

· Belonging to a great church

· Being a leader and, nore importantly, a servant

· For all the opportunities that God has and is giving me

Dang, I still can't believe that Heavy D died, It's just so unbelievable to me. I was so excited when he performed on the BET Awards last month. I mean the guy is just so lovable, how can you not fall in love with Heavy D. I just can't wrap my head around it. I chose this song to post because I used to jam to it every time it came on VH1 Soul. I love this song so much. I don't think I ever fully wrap my head around the fact that Heavy D died, I just can't.

I know it's late but I had to tell you guys about myHalloween festivities. Halloween weekend was so much fun, and unexpected. Ithought I was going to spend the weekend shut up in my room doing homework. Atthe last minute I was invited to a party and decided to go even though I didn’tknow anyone there. I’m so glad that I did though, it was so much fun and I meta lot of cool people. Towards the end of the night we braved the Atlanta chilland went outside to carve pumpkins. My friend and I carved this one, she drewit free hand and wee both carved it out. I have to say we did a pretty awesome jobfor first timers. *pats self on the back* On Halloween I got to spend time withfriends and I watched my favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus. Over all Halloween2011 was one of the best Halloween's I ever had, definitely one for the books!

My ears are in a state of euphoria right now. This new Common song is EVERYTHING. I can't wait for The Dreamer/The Believer to drop in December, I'm gonna be the first in line. Don't mistake the name of the song though, there is nothing sweet about Com's flow on this one. So glad to have the old Common back!

Recently I traveled home to attend my cuzzos weeding. We had so much fun, I don't think I've ever had that mussch fun at a wedding. I wish I could embedd the video from fb but I don't know how, or if it's even possible. The weeding was beautiful and I wish my cousins the best with their union. I pray that God blesses them tremenduosly.

So I've recently discovered spotify *recieves late pass* and it's been a life saver. Especcially since our school blocked pandora on all it's computers. Now I can just chill in the loung and rock out to @brokemogul ( aka Scott Vener - the musical supervisor for Entourage and HTMIIA.) radio as I study, or listen to playlists from Mike Shinoda, D. A. Wallach and the like. You can even listen to brand new albums in their entirity for free 99. My ears are happy. :)
