Christmas 2011

Family, friends, food, and laughter. This Christmas was everything. I had way more fun that I thought I would. It was a pretty low-key day at first but later on that night we had a Christmas shindig at one of my cousins house. It was cool because I had the chance to see people I hadn't seen in years. Going away to school has really distanced me from some people, and it was cool to catch up. Here are a few pics from that joyous day.

get into my fro. ( a year ago I would've never worn my hair out like this, oh how mindsets can change.)
our gigantic Christmas Tree. (we couldn't even put the angel on the top)
A few things I got from my mom:
(she knows me too well!)
Parisian Dreams. I've wanted a poster like this for a long time, I can't wait to get it back to my dorm room.
I knew someone was gonna get me a hard copy of the new Common album, my family knows the love I have for this man and his music.
Overall it was a great Christmas definitely one I'll remember. I hope you had a great holiday season, and remember that the spirit of Christmas does not have to be contained to one day. As my mom put it, we should celebrated everyday like it's Christmas because after all Jesus is worth it everyday!

I wish I could embedd the video from fb but I don't know how, or if it's even possible. The weeding was beautiful and I wish my cousins the best with their union. I pray that God blesses them tremenduosly.

Memorial Day

I Had a great time with my family on Memorial Day. In between plates of BBQ chicken (so proud of myself for not eating any pork even though I was tempted) I made sure to say a prayer for the families and friends of of soldiers who have died protecting this great country of ours. I also said a prayer for all the soldiers who continue to risk their lives day after day for old red, white, and blue. One of my extended family members died in Iraq so we know how important it is to pray for our soldiers. RIP Sam, a true american hero.

p.s. Texas bugs ARE the absolute worst!

Nubian Nuggets

This past weekend my lil' sister graduated high school. I'm so proud of her. I was so happy to see all my family, I hadn't seen them since I've been back in town. We always have so much fun together as evident in this photos.

and more swag
I get it from my mamma!

I entitled this post Nubian nuggets in reference to my hair. I was doing a twist out but my mom and sister loved my bantu knots. They kept telling me to wear it like that, but I was hesitant. I'm still learning to be proud of my "transitioning" hair. I braved it out and wore my hair in bantu knots and, to my surprise, everybody loved it . My family has really been skeptical about me going natural but I think the idea is growing on them My cousin called them nubian nuggets and I think that's what I'm going to call them from now on.
