C'mon 2012

I can't believe it's almost 2012. To me the new year is one more step closer to graduation. Freshman year 2012 seemed so far off but now I can clearly see the finish line, 5/20 here I come. This year has been full of greatness and some downfalls, but all of the good far outweighs the bad so I won't complain. I can't wait to see all that 2012 has to offer. I hope and pray that God blesses the new year and makes it the best year of our lives. See you guys on the other side. Have fun & be safe out there.

Christmas 2011

Family, friends, food, and laughter. This Christmas was everything. I had way more fun that I thought I would. It was a pretty low-key day at first but later on that night we had a Christmas shindig at one of my cousins house. It was cool because I had the chance to see people I hadn't seen in years. Going away to school has really distanced me from some people, and it was cool to catch up. Here are a few pics from that joyous day.

get into my fro. ( a year ago I would've never worn my hair out like this, oh how mindsets can change.)
our gigantic Christmas Tree. (we couldn't even put the angel on the top)
A few things I got from my mom:
(she knows me too well!)
Parisian Dreams. I've wanted a poster like this for a long time, I can't wait to get it back to my dorm room.
I knew someone was gonna get me a hard copy of the new Common album, my family knows the love I have for this man and his music.
Overall it was a great Christmas definitely one I'll remember. I hope you had a great holiday season, and remember that the spirit of Christmas does not have to be contained to one day. As my mom put it, we should celebrated everyday like it's Christmas because after all Jesus is worth it everyday!

Sister, Sister

Silly moments with my sister <3
One of the main things I miss when I'm away at school.

Mermaid in Disguise

with my ear pressed up
against your chest, I heard
the roar of the ocean
and it felt like home

Billionaire Girls Club

Finally us ladies gets some love with a new line from Mr. Williams, cause after all women can be billionaires too. I think the initial line is pretty dope for what it is, a launching point. I can't wait to see what else Pharrell has in store for the line in coming collections. I especially love the colors and tattooed tights, they are so funky, I would love to see more versions of them.

What do you think about the new line?

Swoon Worthy: Alexander DeLeon (of the Cab)

From those piercing green eyes to his sultry voice, from his tattoos to the fact that he is often adorned in a beanie, (I adore guys in oversized beanies) Alexander DeLeon id definitely swoon worthy. I'm also in love with his poetry which he often posts on his tumblr blog SymphonySoldier.com. DeLeon is the founder and lead singer of one of my favorite bands, The Cab. If his looks weren't enough he is the sweetest guy ever. I remember seeing The Cab perform in Atlanta and he was just standing outside before the show talking to fans and asking them about their day. He also rights the majority of the bands lyrics and if his looks don't draw you in his lyricism definitely will. If you've never listened to their music I encourage you to do so, you won't be disappointed. Peep my favorite song by The Cab below.

Guess Who's Going Natural for Christmas???

None other than Barbie herself. I think this is such a cool idea, check out the article below via The Root.

A Georgia group plans to give Barbie dolls to kids in Columbus' Booker T. Washington Apartments this Christmas. But the real gift they hope to deliver is self-acceptance.

Candace McBride, a member of the African-American natural-hair group coordinating the giveaway, told the Ledger-Enguirer that it's hard to find dolls with brown eyes, let alone hair that will remind black girls of their own. So she found an online tutorial that uses pipe cleaners and boiling water to give Barbies natural-looking curls. The plan is to collect and make over about 40 dolls before handing them out.

"We wanted to show the girls that basically, it's OK the way God made you," said member Jennifer Henderson.

Giving plastic toys a trip to the hair salon sounds like a huge undertaking. But maybe that's the kind of thing it takes to combat the pervasive and problematic messages about beauty with which black women are inundated, beginning in childhood. And it's as good as any other idea we've heard to combat this generations-old issue.

If the giveaway goes according to the group's vision, 40 lucky girls will get both toys to play with over Christmas and a powerful message that will stick with them long after they outgrow playing with dolls.

OCD

So I have this theory that people who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder are closer to God than anyone else. God is perfect and when you’re close to him you begin to crave perfection holiness and purity. You desire a world where there’s a place for everything and everything has it’s place. But because the world is not like that it drives you crazy, as I’m sure it does for God. People with OCD are heavenly minded and can’t comprehend earthly clutter and calamity of earthly living.

Just a theory.

On my Christmas list: a record player

I've wanted a record player for a long time now. Recently my mom found my Dad's old records and now I REALLLYYYY want one. Since I don't have one all I can do is stare at the records and collect more. Hopefully I'll have enough saved up soon to get a really nice one or maybe Santa will make my day and place one under the Christmast tree. One can only hope. :)

I was really happy to see all the Gil Scott-Heron records my dad had, I love his music and his poetry. RIP Gil Scott-Heron. I also love the Kenny Rogers album because it shows me that my dad had a soft spot for country just like me lol.

Quote of the Day

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Have a great weekend mes chéries!

Fly Like Paper Cranes

I'm obsessed with all things birds, so I decided to learn how to make paper cranes. Turns out it's pretty easy. I plan on getting some origami paper so I can make tons more to hang all over my room. (how hipster of me right?) I also wanna bring back some Christmas lights from home to hang up over my bed. (again so very hipster) Anyways I think they look pretty cool. Sorry the pics are so dark.

A while back I wrote a poem about paper cranes and I thought I'd share it with you guys, It's called Origami.

Origami

you took me in your hands and molded me
fold by fold you brought me to life
you gave me wings and
through me towards the sky
by day I soar amongst the clouds
and at night you hang me from the stars
and watch me twinkle in the twilight
and there I dangle and dance in praise
with my paper crane neck arched upwards
in total admiration

Hallelujah

I'm finally done! My 20 page thesis proposal is complete and today God blessed me tremendously with a 0 balance on my account. Praise Him! Now all I've to do is turn this paper in in the morning pack and go home. I can enjoy the holiday without worrying about paying tuition, God is too good yall. Glory to his name. Seven semesters down and one more to go. Graduation here I come!

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." - 1 Peter 5:10

This verse pretty much sums up how I fill right now. Thank you God for your faithfulness.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly

you need a cape that
matches mine, and together
we can save the world
